So, many things have been moving along with SPREE 2011. Our Attendee and Exhibitor brochures have been uploaded and are now available on the SPREE website to download. Booth sales are continuing to grow (over 120 booths sold already), we are plugging away on finding speakers for our education seminar program and working on finding a fabulous location for our social event.
Beyond all of that, our Specialty Leasing Summit brochure was just been completed and will be available in print and online soon. For those of you unfamiliar with the Specialty Leasing Summit, it is a day and half intensive training program for specialty leasing professionals to help build the bottom line. I’ve written a previous post about it as well, so you can check that out for more info.
Last but certainly not least, SPREE has teamed up with Camp Soaring Eagle yet again to help raise money for sick children. This year in addition to hosting the silent auction, SPREE is coordinating a charity golf tournament at Las Vegas National Golf Course on Monday, April 11th. Tickets will be $125 per person and all profits will go to Camp Soaring Eagle to help give children with terminal or chronic illnesses the opportunity to experience fun at camp with their families. As I looked back at some of my posts, it occurred to me that I based much of my information on the assumption that those of you reading them would already be familiar with the specialty retail industry. Since I know realize that might not be the case, I thought I would take a little time to discuss it.
Twenty or thirty years ago, if you asked anyone in the shopping center industry, they would have described the specialty retail industry to mean the push carts in the common area used for selling impulse gift items. And, while, thats exactly where it all began, the specialty retail industry has grown to be so much more.
Push carts with big wagon wheels and only a flat surface used for selling have evolved into complex RMUs (retail merchandising units) complete with multi-level shelving for merchandise and built in storage. And, beyond carts and kiosks, specialty retail now includes temporary in-line stores, seasonal concepts and other ancillary income including sponsorships and other non-traditional retail ideas like coin-operated children’s rides and automated retail vending.
As a $12 billion industry, specialty retail continues to thrive and grow into international markets all over the world. The first few months of SPREE 2011 planning are already come and gone. We’ve been busy working on our new Exhibitor and Attendee brochures (will be posted online soon, so keep checking back) and planning out new seminars and events.
